What a valid notice must contain
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), a takedown notice must include each of the following. Incomplete notices may be rejected.
- 1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or an authorized agent.
- 2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
- 3. The exact URL(s) on Lettuce Stream where the infringing material is located (e.g., a Lettuce Clip URL, lettuce.id page, or stream replay).
- 4. Your contact information — name, address, phone number, email.
- 5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law.
- 6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
Our takedown workflow
This is exactly what happens after a notice is received:
Rights holder emails sean@lettucestream.com. The notice is logged with a tracking ID.
We confirm the notice contains all six § 512(c)(3) elements above. Incomplete notices are returned for correction.
We disable or remove access to the identified content expeditiously — typically within 24 hours of verification.
The user who uploaded the content is notified in-app and by email, with a copy of the claim and instructions for filing a counter-notice.
If the uploader submits a valid counter-notice under § 512(g), we forward it to the claimant.
If the claimant does not file a lawsuit within 10–14 business days, we may restore the content as required by § 512(g)(2)(C).
Counter-notice (for uploaders)
If you believe your content was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may submit a counter-notice. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3) it must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material removed and the URL where it appeared.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, phone number, and a statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if outside the U.S., for any judicial district in which Lettuce Stream may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the claimant.
Send counter-notices to sean@lettucestream.com. We will forward valid counter-notices to the original claimant and restore the content after the statutory waiting period unless the claimant files a lawsuit and notifies us.
Repeat-infringer policy
Lettuce Stream may suspend or terminate users who repeatedly upload, publish, stream, or distribute infringing content. This policy applies across every Lettuce surface — Lettuce Stream, Lettuce Clips, Lettuce Music, lettuce.id pages, Lettuce Mail, and any connected channels.
We track and enforce strikes automatically for every verified DMCA takedown that is not successfully counter-noticed. Strikes expire after twelve months of clean activity.
Misrepresentation & abuse
Knowingly material misrepresentations in a notice or counter-notice — including bad-faith takedowns used to silence lawful speech — may subject the sender to liability for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). Lettuce Stream may suspend accounts found to be abusing this process.
